First car made with 3D printer

By Mauricio Hidalgo

In a previous post we talked about using 3D printers to print choclate and now, in this article I share a story that I found surfing the web. In this case the first car made with a 3D printer, a car that is capable of transporting 2 people and can develop a speed of 40km per hour.

Strati

But where is this first car made with 3D printer?

The company that made it is located in United States and is called Local Motors. the company says the car called STRATI, currently requires 44 hours to manufacture but that time will be reduced in the first year to about 24 hours and in the near future come to manufacture it in about 10 or 12 hours.

As is known the 3D printers print in layers and STRATI required 212 layers to build. This car weighs about 800 kg and their manufacturers determine that it is a car that has a useful life of five years, also commented that the price of this small car can vary between 17 and 22 thousand dolars, and would be available in their first versions later this year.

Such vehicles can be mostly recyclable, which is an important point to consider.

3D printing is more used every day and we are gradually seeing the variety of applications that can give you and the thousands of things that can be made.

Manufactured with 3D printers is almost as easy as printing on a sheet of paper, logically there are all kinds of 3D printers on the market, from the printer that can print Lego pieces in the house, to printers that are capable of print in steel and titanium, there for everyone and some are easier to use than others, but ultimately it is a true technological breakthrough that has transformed the manufacture of articles.

I leave this video which quickly shows the manufacturing and assembly of small STRATI.
